Anesthesia during dentistry may be necessary for a variety of reasons. Dental phobic patients, patients with special needs, or pediatric patients unable to cooperate for dental procedures may require anesthesia services. General Anesthesia in the dental office may provide the most ideal scenario for everybody involved to provide comprehensive dental treatment in a very safe environment.

In some instances general anesthesia may not be the ideal scenario. The reasons for this may include a severely medically compromised patient or patient preference. In scenarios such as this a moderate or conscious sedation may be the best option. In this scenario an IV will be placed and anti-anxiety medications are given to take the edge off while still maintaining consciousness.

This will be determined through consultation with both the patient and the operating dentist/surgeon. Dr. Yancey will be in contact with all of the patients prior to the treatment taking place in order to determine which level of anesthesia is right. A time to answer any questions that the patients or caregivers might have will be provided to everybody.

During all anesthetic procedures, Dr. Yancey utilizes only state-of-the-art, hospital-grade monitoring equipment including pulse oximetry, EKG, capnography, anesthetic gas analysis, Bluetooth pre-tracheal stethoscopes, video laryngoscopy and electronic non-invasive blood pressure monitoring. Dr. Yancey is in constant attendance from the time you arrive, until you leave following your surgery, monitoring your every vital statistic from start to finish. Dr. Yancey is certified and fully equipped and trained to handle full emergency codes, including all advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) protocols.
